Salgood Sam is a Graphic Novelist and Illustrator Based out of Montreal. Since he first read and drew comics as a kid, they have had a central place in his life. Looking at the work of the artists on those books, he saw something he wanted to do. He also wanted to fly. He might have gone for engineer, or the sciences, but he didn’t have the marks for that ‘they’ said. But At 6 rather than lemonade, he sold drawings from a box beside the curb. And while getting B- on his own papers,by grade 7 he was selling art for the cover pages of his fellow students presentations making money for gravy with his fries.
He attended Wexford C.I. for 3 years in the 80′s, but had a prickly relationship with schools. Most of what he knows comes from being the son of a artists; A talented painter sculptor storyboard artist and director; And a writer sometimes photographer instigator biker full time troublemaker. His mother worked as an illustrator and then in animation to support them both, which provided him with access to Nelvana Studious on a regular basis as a child. This meant getting to wander around between 8 and 18 watching animated films come into existence drawing by drawing. Standing next to the side tables of hundreds of artists over his formative years watching them work. The first sexy girl drawings he remembers doing were copied from the character bible for Angel from Rock & Rule. He published zines through the 80′s, and by the early 90′s had started working professionally as a comic artist at Marvel Comics. In the 20 years since then he’s spent much of his time drawing comics, working in animation as a designer, and freelancing as an illustrator.
Nominated “Best Emerging Talent” for the 2005 Doug Wright Awards for his personal anthology project RevolveR, in 2007 he published Therefore Repent! with collaborator Jim Monroe, and has work appearing in the Eisner winning anthology Comic Book Tattoo, Popgun 4, and Awesome 2: Awesomer. He also founded and publishes the comics news metablog Sequential.
