I’ve made slight mention of this in the past, but I am working with IDW and Suicide Girls on the official SG comic. I’m not illustrating the entire thing, but I designed the characters (a cast of new, fictional Suicide Girl models), and I am illustrating the covers and short 2-page backups inside each issue. The main story will be written by Brea Grant and drawn by David Hahn, and the backups I’m drawing are written by Steve Niles!

I had the great pleasure of attending the Jornadas Internacionales Del Comic XV festival in Aviles Spain a couple of weeks ago. It’s a small show, but intimate and very social allowing you to really get to know your fellow artists and fans. Rather than having an artist’s alley, the artists just lounge in the city square on the patios of various bars hanging out and drawing for the fans…

Below (and above) is a selection of some of my favourite sketches (click to enlarge) I did during the few days i was at the festival. I apologise as the quality is not the best as most of the photos were taken with my iPhone.

I tend to do head sketches as it is simple and less taxing than trying to figure out poses and such. I had great fun tackling many characters i’ve never drawn before including one of a fellow i’ll be tackling an issue of later in the year, a green lantern sketch i don’t hate, and many many catwoman requests for some reason.

And before you ask… why are there so many Jar Jar Binks sketches?  (ie – more than zero) the answer is simple; if i am approached and said individual interested in potential sketch says “whatever you want to draw”… rather than think trying to figure out who i might be interested in drawing i default to Jar Jar Binks. You are forewarned.

the end of this month sees the return of the toronto comic con now under the wizard world banner. i am exhibiting as a guest at the show which takes place at the direct energy centre (on the cne grounds; 100 princess st.) and runs from march 26-28th. the show has a flurry of great guests, from comics, television, and film! swing on by and say hello if you are in the hood.

i will be doing commissions & sketches at the show and will have a fancy new print or two for you all to enjoy!

twitter + art = twart. get all those dirty thoughts outta your heads.

the comic twarts are Ron Salas, Declan Shalvey, Tom Fowler, Dan Panosian, Francesco Francavilla, Chris Samnee, Mike Hawthorne, Patrick Stiles, Nathan Fairbairn, Evan “Doc” Shaner, Dan McDaid, Steve Bryant, Mitch Gerads, Andy Kuhn, Mitch Breitweiser & myself. each week a different character is chosen by an individual Twart and then said character is tackled by all. for the first round we tackled zorro, followed by the rocketeer (which i sadly missed cause i was travelling, but i’m gonna try and sneak it in anyways…), and now… torpedo.
